Traveling through Iceland
Visiting Iceland in Winter. Lot’s of snow, hardly any light and temperatures 15 Celsius below zero.
Off we go from Zürich Airport up north to Iceland. In December when there are no hoards of tourists. As we thought. Turned out to be quite something going on around Christmas and New Year, despite us being in darkness most of the time. Especially lot’s of snow falling, Iceland experiencing an unusual amount of snowfall for this time of the year. This added quite an adventurous note to our trip, driving in whiteouts, defrosting the windscreen all 30 minutes, driving on Ice, having to turn around due to closed roads or digging out our car in the morning. See the following impressions of our road-trip from Reykjavik to Hvolsvöllur, to Vik, up to the Snaefellsnes peninsula and back again to Reykjavik, trying to capture Iceland in winter.
The Engines powering us up to Iceland
Our view most of the time when we hit the Road. Strong winds blowing the snow across the road, reducing visibility to a minimum
Heaps of new snow piling up every morning, making getting out of the house an adventure
The world famous black Beach of Vik
The town of Vik in the Sunset
An iced over Waterfall capturing some light in the afternoon
Stuck In Snow, trying to get our jeeps out
Mountains Towering up in the Snaefellsness Peninsula

Some grand architecture at the famous Harpa Hall
A YUUGE Church in the middle of the City. Saw some terrific (terrifying?) fireworks there at New Years Eve
Punkrock in Reykjavik
Whale watching in a Whiteout at Sea. Saw the Tail of a Graywhale for a second
