Visiting Northern Ireland
A roadtrip to beautiful Northern Ireland with stunning landscapes and beautiful colors and people.
Landing in Dublin, picking up a rental and driving upnorth to Kilkeel, where the mountains of Mourne Sweep down to the sea. Annalong as a great base to explore the surrounding mountains. Picking up strength in The Galley Restaurant which we highly recommend for breakfast before seeting out to hike the various mountains of the central Mourne Mountains. (Slieve Binian, Slieve Donard, Lough Shannah), checking out the awesome Fishing Harbour in Kilkeel, getting the best Cappuchino at South Point Coffee Co and eating supper at wonderful places like The Slieve Donard Hotel in Newcastle or the Harbour Inn in Annalong. Continuing a little North we enjoy the Country Side groove at Gorse Farm, visiting Tollymore Forrest Park, Silent Valley, Castlewellan and exploring the Culinary treats the region has to offer, highlighting The Bucks Head in Dundrum for fine dining in a rustic setup. We continue Northwards along the Coast, passing through picturesque villages like Killough, Ardglass or Kilclief before staying two nights in Belfast for some Mural Tours, Titanic Museum andUrban sightseeing. From there we go up the Antrim coast. Peaceful roads, stunning sceneries like Torr Head, The Giants Causeway or the Carrick a Rede Roap Bridge. A great spot to stay checking out these places is Ballycastle, where you shouldn’t miss the Salthouse Hotel for the best food in the area.
Driving Instructions for tourists at Dublin Airport!
First hint at the airport that traffic is a little different in Ireland and the UK. It will continue in the rental with stickers, highlighting that you stay alert when driving.
Holidays are for sitting back, taking a breath and enjoying the views. I found this chair on a field in Mourne Grange community. Makes one wonder who put it there.
The View of Slieve Binian from Kilkeel Harbor. We where up on the summit earlier and it was a good feeling looking up from Kilkeel and feeling the accomplishment of summiting and braving thewind.
The Famous Mourne Wall going through the whole of the picture. Taken between Ott Mountain and Slieve Meelbeg during a hike.
Sheep grazing in the Mournes - a very common view. This one taken just of Slievenaman road in the middle of the Mourne Mountains
Parnells Bridge in Tollymore Forest Park
Typical Northern Irish Main Road Scenery. Picture taken out of the car in Millisle. I believe it represents the small town high street perfectly
Mural near Falls Road, Belfast, with the theme of Kneecap, the band that is currently hyped in the republican community.
The (in)famous Hotel Europa - One Of The Favorite ‘To Blow up’ targets Of The IRA back in the days
Looking Northwards From Torr Head capturing the rough Irish sea and the blue colors of the sky and ocean.
Having such a view out of your Bedroom Window - Priceless! I used the window to give the sea a frame.
Rough Irish sea in front of our cottage. One of numerous pictures to capture the power of the waves crashing on the rocks at the shore near Ballycastle.
